A 120 year old slate roof was repaired in Nashville, TN. This home located in the Belle Meade area of Nashville had a beautiful existing natural slate roof that was estimated to be 120 years old! This stunning roof included copper metal valleys and flashings and decorative slate hips and ridges.
While the existing slate roofing tiles were in great shape, the 120 year old copper was beginning to rust. In addition, the years had taken a toll of the hips and ridges which had been improperly repaired over the years with tar, caulking and even duct tape! Needless to say, this was a problem that needed to be addressed.
Carefully Reusing Existing Slate
Our crews carefully removed the existing slate tile in all areas where copper accent roofing was located. This included the valleys as well as other flashing areas. After the area was carefully prepped with the old copper being removed, new ice and water was installed to make a water tight joint.
New 16 gauge copper terne metal was installed in the valleys and copper flashings replaced. Once all of the copper flashings had been replaced, the existing slate tiles were carefully replaced
